Es funcional y\/o antigenicamente distinta de los otros inhibidores conocidos del complemento.  en el presente trabajo se ha purificado factor j, y se han obtenido anticuerpos poli y monoclonales que lo reconocen especificamente. Estos anticuerpos han sido utilizados para detectar y cuantificar inmunoquimicamente este factor en suero humano, asi como para estudiar su presencia en celulas humanas, tanto \u00abin vitro\u00bb como \u00abin vivo\u00bb. Factor j esta presente en forma soluble en suero humano, mostrando una distribucion bimodal en las 86 muestras estudiadas, con un valor medio de 5.3 +- 2.8 mg\/l. Asi mismo esta presente en membranas de eritrocitos y en la superficie de un peque\u00f1o porcentaje de linfocitos de sangre periferica, principalmente b, asi como en la periferia y superficie de las lineas celulares humanas u937, k562, hep g2 y hela. Tambien se han llevado a cabo estudios estructurales sobre factor j purificado de orina. Los resultados indican que este factor es una glicoproteina cationica altamente glicosilada, que se comporta anomalamente en sds.Page, resistente a la digestion con proteasas y cuya parte glicosidica
