Segun este mecanismo, la superficie del oro quedaria dividida en un area anodica y en un area catodica, donde tendrian lugar las reacciones de oxidacion del oro y reduccion del ion talio (i), respectivamente. A su vez, el area catodica se subdiviria nuevamente en una subarea anodica y catodica, donde tendrian lugar las reacciones de oxidacion del talio depositado sobre la superficie del oro y la de reduccion del oxigeno. Esta ultima, y a diferencia de la cianuracion convencional, da iones hidroxilo como producto de la reaccion de reduccion.
