Trutta. En estas celulas la glucosa es captada por un proceso de difusion simple. Una vez en su interior, la glucosa puede ser metabolizada por la glucolisis, la via de las pentosas fosfato y el ciclo de los acidos tricarboxilicos, siendo el enzima regulador del flujo glucolitico fosfofructoquinasa. En condiciones aerobicas, hay una elevada produccion de lactato a partir de distintos sustratos energeticos. En ausencia de estos sustratos los eritrocitos consumen oxigeno y producen lactato. Estos resultados sugieren la existencia de un sustrato endogeno. Frente a la estimulacion adrenergica con isoproterenol, el eritrocito responde aumentando la captacion de glucosa, asi como la metabolizacion de glucosa y piruvato, aunque no se mantienen los mismos niveles de atp que en condiciones control.  en condiciones anaerobicas, el eritrocito experimenta una parada metabolica, manteniendose el equilibrio entre los procesos formadores de atp y los consumidores.
