Se ha observado una incidencia remarcable de terremotos, deslizamientos, olas de frio, granizo y vientos huracanados, aunque los fenomenos que mas han influido en la isla son las sequias y las inundaciones.  se han analizado detalladamente las inundaciones, determinadas por avenidas fluviales.  dicho estudio ha sido realizado a partir del establecimiento de la distribucion espacial y temporal de precipitaciones intensas (mediante la aplicacion de la estadistica de valores extremos.  igualmente se han trabajado las series de caudales aforados y las noticias historicas sobre anegamientos, con mayor detalle en el periodo 1960-1985.  estableciendose tipolog\u00edas de inundaciones.  se concluye que hay una relacion entre las tipolog\u00edas de inundaciones establecidas y la distribucion espacial de la probabilidad de lluvias intensas.
