Estos cambios pueden afectar de forma especial al \u00e1rea mediterr\u00e1nea, donde se prev\u00e9 para la mitad del siglo xxi un aumento de la temperatura de entre 2 y 4\u00c2\u00bac. Este aumento de la temperatura puede afectar a dos de los factores ambientales limitantes de los ecosistemas mediterr\u00e1neos: la disposici\u00f3n de agua y de nutrientes.  se han estudiado en cuatro especies mediterr\u00e1neas, quercus ilex, quercus coccifera, pinus hapelensis y juniperus phoenicea, mecanismos de adaptaci\u00f3n a estos dos factores limitantes. Por un lado variaciones en la morfolog\u00eda foliar como respuesta a cambios en la disponibilidad h\u00eddrica, y por otro lado mecanismos de conservaci\u00f3n de nutrientes como respuesta a la variaci\u00f3n en la disponibilidad de los mismos.  los resultados muestran que quercus coccifera produce hojas de menor \u00e1rea y de mayor densidad como respuesta a condiciones h\u00eddricas m\u00e1s desfavorables mientras que se muestra bastante conservador en el uso de estrategias encaminadas a responder a condiciones nutricionales adversas. Quercus ilex no presenta modificaciones en sus par\u00e1metros de morfolog\u00eda fliar pero se muestra m\u00e1s eficiente en el uso del f\u00f3sforo. Pinus halepensis, reduce dr\u00e1sticamente su longevidad foliar para hacer frente al estr\u00e9s h\u00eddrico pero no modifica su eficiencia en el uso de los nutrientes. Finalmente, juniperus phoenicea es la especie que m\u00e1s ha modificado sus par\u00e1metros tanto en t\u00e9rminos de variaciones morfol\u00f3gicas como nutricionales ya que presenta una mayor masa por unidad de superficie (slm) en respuesta al estr\u00e9s h\u00eddrico, y es m\u00e1s eficiente en el uso del nitr\u00f3geno y del f\u00f3sforo en respuesta a condiciones nutricionales m\u00e1s
