Presentan un alto porcentaje de reconocimiento por los sueros de pacientes con leishmaniasis y muy baja reacci\u00f3n cruzada con sueros chag\u00e1sicos. La identificaci\u00f3n d eplb70 determin\u00f3 que codifica la hsp70 de l. Braziliensis, no caracterizada hasta la fecha.Se ha aislado y caracterizado el gen que la codifica, determinando que consta de una \u00fanica copia, al contrario que en otros tripanosom\u00e1tidos.Se ha expresado como prote\u00edna recombinantes y tambi\u00e9n se ha dividido en 5 fragmentos solpantes para estudiar su antigenicidad y realizar el correspondiente mapeo antig\u00e9nico.El fragmento recombiante carboxiterminal rlb70(513-663) presenta una sensibilidad del 70% y una especificaidad del 100%. Alcanzando el objetivo principal palanteado en  esta tesis doctoral, este fragmento podr\u00eda se utilizado para el diagn\u00f3stico espec\u00edfico de la lesihamaniasis cut\u00e1nea y mucocut\u00e1nea causada por l.
