Este receptor tiene como funci\u00f3n la activaci\u00f3n del linfocito t cuando ocurre el contacto con ant\u00edgenos. La activaci\u00f3n celular est\u00e1 mediada por los dominios citopl\u00e1smicos de las prote\u00ednas del cd3, mediante un motivo conservado a lo largo de la evoluci\u00f3n denominado itam, que est\u00e1 presente en  todas ellas.  la caracterizaci\u00f3n de ligandos citopl\u00e1smicos nuevos para el dominio citopl\u00e1smicos de cd3* permite el estudio del mecanismo de activaci\u00f3n del complejo tcr-cd3 y el descubrimiento de nuevos motivos implicados en la transmisi\u00f3n de se\u00f1ales del receptor diferentes de la secuencia itam.  en concreto este trabajo ha demostrado que las prote\u00ednas nucleolina y nck son ligandos de cd3* cuando el receptor contacta con est\u00edmulos. El estudio de estas interacciones ha permitido descubrir que el receptor sufre un cambio en su estructura necesario para el inicio de las se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n celular que conlleva la activaci\u00f3n del linfocito t. Adem\u00e1s se demuestra que cd3* contiene una secuencia de residuos de prolinas, independiente de motivos itam, que tambi\u00e9n resulta imprescindible durante el proceso de transmisi\u00f3n de
