En espa\u00f1a en dos estudios multicentricos la preValencia de aislados resistentes a ciprofloxacino fue de 5,3%y 7,1%, en los periodos de 1996-1997 y 1998-1999, respectivamente. aunque hay muchos estudios dirigidos al conocimiento de los mecanismos de resistencia a la fluorquinolonas en el neumococo, los mecanismos de aparici\u00f3n y diseminaci\u00f3n de los aislados resistentes no son todav\u00eda bien conocidos. Para ello se estudiaron cepas de streptococcus penumoniae resistentes a ciprofloxacino donde se estudio su actividad frente nuevas quinolonas como son gemifloxacino y trovafloxacino.
