Los datos suministrados por los fabricantes de autobuses en cuanto a consumo se refiere no suelen corresponderse con la realidad.  por otro lado, las empresas de transporte no utilizan la variable consumo como un parametro a optimizar cuando dise\u00f1an lineas de autobuses.  la presente tesis, eminentemente experimental, desarrolla un modelo matematico para predecir el consumo de combustible en lineas de autobuses urbanos.  con el fin obtener datos con los que entrar en la ecuacion del consumo, se desarrollaz un programa de simulacion mediante ordenador de la circulacion de un autobus por una linea urbana cualquiera.  ambas fases de la investigacion, modelo matematico y programa de simulacion, se validan comparandolos con los datos reales de circulacion de autobuses en la ciudad de Madrid. Estos datos proceden de un estudio previo realizado con instrumentacion adecuada sobre un autobus circulando en linea con pasajeros reales. Se emplea una nueva metodolog\u00eda basada en el empleo de tacografos no convencionales y medidores de consumo mediante la validacion subsiguiente se encuentra un nivel de prediccion suficientemente bueno.  el conjunto de la tesis presenta una metodolog\u00eda sencilla pero altamente eficaz para el dise\u00f1o y gestion de lineas de autobuses empleando el consumo de combustible como un parametro
