Se ha realizado una revision del estado actual del conocimiento respecto a los suelos parcialmente saturados, con el fin de determinar los factores que mas afectan a su comportamiento, y los metodos para su evaluacion.  para el desarrollo del programa de ensayos se han utilizado aparatos que permiten el control de la succion. Los tres suelos empleados cubren un amplio rango de materiales. Las probetas han sido compactadas estaticamente, para condiciones de humedad y densidad previamente determinadas. Los procesos de cambio y equilibrio de humedad han sido estudiados considerando diferentes factores que influyen en el tiempo de equilibrio, incluyendo las tecnicas de ensayo, el comportamiento resistente y de deformacion de los suelos ha sido analizado para valores de la sucrion variando desde cero hasta 12 m para los resultados de los ensayos permiten establecer relaciones entre la succion y el contenido de humedad. La independencia del sistema de drenaje es un factor muy importante en la velocidad con que se producen los cambios de humedad. Respecto a las variaciones de la resistencia a penetracion y los modulos de deformacion con la succion, los resultados obtenidos indican que sus valores aumentan, de forma no lineal, con la succion
