Edulis de las costas atlanticas y mediterraneas de europa para 14-23 genes alozimicos. La heterozigosis media por locus ha sido 0,095. La diferenciacion geografica es baja en la mayoria de los loci, salvo en el locus ark (f st 0,255), que presenta una fuerte clina a lo largo del area muestreada. Se detectan deficiencias de heterozigotos en algunos loci, especialmente en me-1.  mediante el metodo upgma aplicado a las distancias geneticas de nei entre pares de poblaciones, se distinguen tres grupos de poblaciones, que pueden explicarse por restriccion al flujo genico debida a los sistemas de circulacion marina.  la relacion de la heterozigosis multilocus, computada para 10 genes alozimicos, y ciertos caracteres cuantitativos, se ha estudiado en una cohorte de ostra obtenida en criadero y muestreada a los 6 y 12 meses de edad.
