El tama\u00f1o total es de 4.607 nucleotidos (g+c=74,49%).  codifica tres proteinas: (1) la proteina \u00abx\u00bb (orf-1) tiene 361 aa y 39,5 kda, y probablemente posea actividad tioesterasa, (2) la proteina pabab (orf-2) tiene 723aa y 77,9 kda, presentando homolog\u00eda en su extremo amino-terminal con otras enzimas paba descritas mientras que su extremo carboxilo-terminal tiene homolog\u00eda con otras enzimas pabb (la proteina pabab revierte las auxotrofias a paba en mutantes paba y pabb donde estos genes no estan ligados), y (3) la proteina \u00aby\u00bb (orf-3) esta truncada por estar incompleto el fragmento de adn que la codifica (probablemente la actividad de la proteina sea la acilacion de paba mediante coa). Tambien se ha estudiado el mecanismo de deleccion espontanea in vivo por el cual el fragmento de 4,6 kb pasa a tener 3.456 pb. Asimismo se han detectado nuevas cepas de streptomyces productoras de candicidina mediante la utilizacion como sonda del fragmento de adn de 3,4 kb resultante de la
