Luisa fernanda alvarez moreno para optar al grado de doctor en ciencias quimicas, aborda investigaciones sobre el estudio de las transformaciones anisotermicas de fases y microconstituyentes por efecto de ciclos de calentamiento y enfriamiento. Analiza las posibilidades de transformacion para optimizar propiedades fundamentales de estos aceros, proponiendo modificaciones originales sobre los parametros de los ciclos de sus tratamientos termicos convencionales.  asimismo, profundizando en la transformacion martensitica, pone de manifiesto la existencia de subtransformaciones ineditas y elabora una teoria para explicar el origen de
