Del caldo obtenido se aislo y purifico a homogeneidad una enzima que respondia de la mayor parte de la actividad endoglucanasa, denominada eg iv. El proceso de purificacion incluyo precipitacion salina fraccionada, cormatografia de intercambio ionico a ph 7.0, cromatografia de penetrabilidad y nueva cromatografia de intercambio ionico a ph 4.5. La caracterizacion estructural muestra que se trata de una glicoproteina con una elevada proporcion de estructura beta y una exigua proporcion de helice alfa; los parametros hidrodinamicos determinados informan de un aspecto alargado para la molecula. Esta enzima sufre inactivacion entre 50 y 70 grados c, siendo la formacion de agregados el fenomeno responsable de dicha termoinactivacion; de este modo se sugiere el empleo de urea y un protector de puentes disulfuro para la utilizacion industrial de la enzima con fines industriales.
