La primera definici\u00f3n cuantificada de hematuria no lleg\u00f3 hasta los trabajos de addis en 1926. Actualmentes se acepta &gt;500-8000 hemat\u00edes\/ml (m\u00e9todo anal\u00edtico), &gt;2,3 hemat\u00edes por campo de gran aumento (microscopio) o tan solo 1 hemat\u00ede de origen epitelial. Todos los hemat\u00edes fisiol\u00f3gicos son siempre de origen glomerular.  por distinguir entre origen glomerular y no glomerular es determinante.  se sabe que si los eritrocitos de una muestra urinaria no est\u00e1n distorisionados, y son uniformes su tama\u00f1o y membrana (igual que los de sangre perif\u00e9rica), provienen de la v\u00eda urinaria y que si son dism\u00f3rficos, microc\u00edticos, hipocr\u00f3micos e incluso est\u00e1n fragmentados son de origen glomerular. Los m\u00e9todos utilizados para averiguar su origen son el microscopio, la volumetr\u00eda con contadores coulter y la volumetr\u00eda por dispersi\u00f3n luz l\u00e1ser.  material y m\u00e9todos  estudio prospectivo con 186 pacientes enviados por microhematuria asintom\u00e1tica a las consultas de urolog\u00eda, con m\u00e1s de 5h. X c.G.A. (Excluidos piuria o signos itu). Se ha practicado estudio uro-nefrol\u00f3gico completo para detectar el origen.  se han procesado las muestras (sangre y orina) con el autoanalizador technic\u00f3n h3 de bayer (dispersi\u00f3n luz l\u00e1ser) calculando el volumen corpuspular medio (vcm), la concentraci\u00f3n de hemoglobina corpuscular media (chcm), el \u00edndice de distribuci\u00f3n de hemat\u00edes (idh), que nos define el grado de anisocitosis, as\u00ed como el \u00edndice de distribuci\u00f3n de hemoglobina (idhb) que nos traduce la presencia de hemat\u00edes hipo o hipercr\u00f3micos. Adem\u00e1s del estudio en orina (vcmo chcmo, idho, idhbo), se ha realizado estudio volum\u00e9trico diferencial entre el hemat\u00ede de sangre perif\u00e9rica y el hemat\u00ede presente en la orina,
