La regulacion del proceso tiene lugar preferentemente sobre la etapa de iniciacion. La inexistencia de relacion entre la actividad de sintesis y la actividad del factor eif-2, sugiere que la actividad del factor no es limitante en tejido hepatico. Durante el ayuno disminuye la union a los ribosomas de una proteina de 42kda, efecto revertido por alanina; la administracion de alanina, ademas, disminuye el grado de fosforilacion, lo que sugiere la implicacion de mecanismos de fosforilacion\/desfosforilacion en la regulacion. Por otro lado, la actividad de sintesis de proteinas requiere rangos determinados de las concentraciones de na+,k+ y ph intracelulares, fuera de los cuales se produce inhibicion. Sin embargo los mecanismos implicados en la respuesta a alanina no son estrictamente dependientes del na+ extracelular, y si dependen de la integridad de la atpasa na+\/k+.
