La alternativa de la resina no resulta viable para depurar un efluente industrial con un elevado contenido en sales. Las curvas de agotamiento de un lecho de carbon indican que una parte de los compuestos fenolicos permanece unida irreversiblemente al carbon mientras que el resto puede ser absorbida y desorbida de forma sucesiva siempre que se llegue al mismo nivel de regeneracion.  el metodo de regeneracion utilizado proporciona la separacion selectiva de fenol y acido salicilico.
