Se han obtenido secciones eficaces totales y diferenciales para los diferentes procesos en nucleos pesados y medis, gracias a la aplicacion de tecnicas microscopicas basadas en la representacion del nucleo como una amalgama de nucleones, mesones y particulas, en lagrangianos efectivos para las interacciones y en la teoria cuantica para el problema de muchos cuerpos.
