Se ha utilizado numerosas fuentes:  bibliograficas, hemerograficas, orales (en espa\u00f1a y mexico), documentos y archivos particulares. La conclusion es que garfias aparece como el principal poeta del ultraismo en espa\u00f1a, en su aspecto mas equilibrado; luego, como uno de los primeros poetas de la guerra civil y de la literatura del compromiso. Esta poesia de guerra aparece enmarcada en la tradicion del romancero, en la poesia tradicional y popular espa\u00f1ola. No es poesia de circunstancias. De ninguna manera. Es poesia verdadera, arrancada de una profunda sinceridad y vivencia autentica, emocionada y fervorosa. En tercer lugar, garfias aparece como la principal voz del exilio espa\u00f1ol en mexico, en union, tal vez, de leon felipe. Su poesia se torna entonces intima, a veces existencial, en ocasiones machadiana, siempre sincera, obsesionada por la soledad, el desarraigo, el desamor y la autocompasion. En toda su obra perviven: la destreza formalista del ultraismo, el gusto neopopularista (tradicion, romancero y cante flamenco), la influencia de machado, la fidelidad a la rima, el uso de la imagen original y vigorosa, el sentido del recorte del poema y el hondo palpitar humano.  premio nacional de literatura de 1938, aparece como el poeta mas sincero de la guerra; autor luego del poema emblema del exilio (\u00abentre espa\u00f1a y mexico\u00bb) y de la principal elegia del exilio (primavera en eaton hastings). Queda demostrada en la tesis la profunda unidad entre vida y obra. Una vida bohemia y triste, cuyas lagrimas cristalizan en versos.
