Su s\u00edntesis se encuentra alterada en procesos inflamatorios, sepsis, c\u00e1ncer, enfermedad de alzheimer y otras situaciones patol\u00f3gicas.  de forma resumida podemos destacar:  * la cox-2 se expresa en hepatocitos fetales (hf) estimulados con lps o citoquinas pro-inflamatorias tanto a nivel de prote\u00edna como a nivel de mrna. Los hepatocitos adultos (ha) no expresan cox-2 cuando son tratados en id\u00e9nticas condiciones. Esta respuesta de cox-2 a los est\u00edmulos decrece despu\u00e9s del nacimiento y desaparece en hepatocitos post-nasales.  * los factores de transcripci\u00f3n de la familia de los c\/ebps, que se unen principalmente al sitio nf-il6 en el promotor de cox-2, tienen una importancia significativa en la expresi\u00f3n de cox-2 por lps en hf y c\u00e9lulas at3f. Los hf y las c\u00e9lulas at3f tienen niveles importantes de c\/ebp, el cual est\u00e1 ausente en las c\u00e9lulas adultas, mientras que la isoforma predominante en los hepatocitos adultos es el c\/ebpalfa. La presencia de elevados niveles de c\/ebpalfa, es en parte responsable de la no inducibilidad de cox-2 en el hepatocito adulto.  * las pgs producidas por cox-2 tras la hp tienen un papel regulador en el proceso regenerativo del h\u00edgado. En animales con ns-398 o animales cox-2, los niveles del ant\u00edgeno nuclear de proliferaci\u00f3n celular est\u00e1n disminuidos y aumentan los niveles de p27kpi indicando que cuando se inhibe cox-2 hay un retraso en la proliferaci\u00f3n celular. La expresi\u00f3n de cox-2 en h\u00edgado regenerante est\u00e1 en relaci\u00f3n con la disminuci\u00f3n en los niveles de c\/ebpalfa y el incremento en la expresi\u00f3n d ec\/ebpbeta y c\/ebp.  * el tratamiento de cultivos primarios de hf con citoquinas pro-inflamatorias, lps y hgf promueve la expresi\u00f3n de cox-2 y la s\u00edntesis de pgs.
