Tras un breve recorrido por su historia, la autora estudia la formaci\u00f3n de una imagen en los libros de viaje, desde el siglo xv hasta el siglo xx, en autores de diferentes nacionalidades.  a continuaci\u00f3n, el primer autor que influencia de una manera determinante la visi\u00f3n del espacio urbano lisboeta es fernando pessoa, en cuya biograf\u00eda y en cuya producci\u00f3n ort\u00f3nima y heter\u00f3nima se puede descubrir el germen de un nuevo tratamiento del espacio: la ciudad transformada en met\u00e1fora.  los autores posteriores, como antonio mu\u00f1oz molina, cees nooteboom, antonio tabucchi, jos\u00e9 cardoso pires o jos\u00e9 saramago, asimilan este cambio de rumbo en la po\u00e9tica de una ciudad como lisboa, llegando a convertirla en ciudad-enso\u00f1aci\u00f3n, ciudad-fantasma, o ciudad-laberinto. Al final del trabajo se encuentra un panorama de c\u00f3mo se forja la imagen de lisboa en la cinematograf\u00eda reciente, y unos apuntes de olisipograf\u00eda, la rama del saber que se ocupa en
