Nosotros hemos investigado el efecto de las drogas antiaterog\u00e9nicas estatinas sobre la expresi\u00f3n de cd36 en monocitos humanos, as\u00ed como el mecanismo molecular responsable de su acci\u00f3n reguladora. Adem\u00e1s, hemos evaluado el efecto que tanto las estatinas como diferentes ligandos del receptor nuclear ppar-gamma tienen sobre la susceptibilidad para formar c\u00e9lulas espumosas.  nuestros resultados demuestran que las estatinas incrementan la expresi\u00f3n de cd36 en la superficie celular as\u00ed como sus niveles de rna mensajero a trav\u00e9s de la potenciaci\u00f3n de la transcripci\u00f3n del gen de cd36. Los efectos de las estatinas sobre la expresi\u00f3n de cd36 son prevenidos por mevalonato y geranilgeraniol, lo cual indica el requerimiento de prote\u00ednas geranilgeraniladas en la regulaci\u00f3n de cd36. El inhibidor de las rho-gtpasas, la exoenzima c3, reproduce el efecto de las estatinas mientras que el activador de rho, el \u00e1cido lisofosfat\u00eddico, disminuye la expresi\u00f3n de cd36. Lo que es m\u00e1s, la expresi\u00f3n transitoria de mutantes dominantes negativos de rhoa y rhob inducen un aumento significativo de la actividad promotora de cd36 con respecto a sus correspondientes formas nativas. En conjunto, estos datos indican que las estatinas incrementan la expresi\u00f3n de cd36 mediante la inactivaci\u00f3n de las prote\u00ednas rho-gtpasas. Adem\u00e1s, un disruptor del citoesqueleto de actina, la citocalasina d, incrementa la expresi\u00f3n de cd36, sugiriendo que las prote\u00ednas de la familia de rho afectan la expresi\u00f3n de cd36 a trav\u00e9s de sus efectos sobre la organizaci\u00f3n del citoesqueleto de actina.
