Se ha clonado y secuenciado el gen responsable del mismo, que se ha situado en los cromosomas con tama\u00f1o de 1,2 y 0,6 mb respectivamente; este resultado aporta una informaci\u00f3n muy \u00fatil en el marco del proyecto genoma de leishmania, y que ayudar\u00e1 en el futuro en el conocimiento y mapeo de otros transportadores de tipo abc en estos organismos. mediante diversas t\u00e9cnicas, se ha conseguido la sobreexpresi\u00f3n de esta prote\u00edna, lo que ha resultado de gran utilidad a la hora de obtenci\u00f3n de anticuerpos policlonales frente a ltrabc1.1. Estos anticuerpos han sido empleados posteriormente en experimentos de inmunofluorescencia directa e inmunocitoqu\u00edmica para localizar el citado transportador ltrabc1.1 en el bolsillo flagelar de este par\u00e1sito.  el trabajo se completa finalmente, con un estudio sobre infecci\u00f3n de macr\u00f3fagos con c\u00e9lulas de leishmania que sobreexpresan el transportador ltrabc1.1, y en los cuales el grado de parasitaci\u00f3n es menor que en los experimentos control. Estos resultados parecen sugerir que esta prote\u00edna podr\u00eda desempe\u00f1ar un papel clave en los procesos de infecci\u00f3n, posiblemente alterando alg\u00fan factor implicado en la invasi\u00f3n celular del par\u00e1sito en la c\u00e9lula hospedadora, y abre interesantes perspectivas biotecnol\u00f3gicas en el conocimiento de la infecci\u00f3n por parte de estos par\u00e1sitos
