Generalmente se cree que la hiperglucemia es el defecto subyacente, pero, los diabeticos presentan otras muchas anormalidades metabolicas que podrian tener importancia en el desarrollo de la retinoptia diabetica, como es estr\u00e9s oxidativo.  el proposito de este trabajo fue confirmar el papel del estr\u00e9s oxidativao en la retinopatia diabetica, mediante la determinacion de productos de la peroxidacion lipidica. Se intenta tambien demostrar el efecto beneficioso de un tratamiento coadyuvante con antioxidantes.  se usaron ratones albino machos, que fueron hechos diabeticos con una dosis unica de aloxana. Un grupo de ratones fue tratado con insulina y otro con ebselen los dias 4,5 y 6 del experimento. Los animales se sacrificaron a los 7 dias del inicio del experimento.  se miden los valores de peso, glucemia y hbaic. Despues de una semana de induccion de la diabetes, se observa un aumento significativo de los niveles de glucosa en sangre y una disminuci\u00f3n en el peso. Estos valores se normalizan con el tratamiento con insulina.  los valores de mda en suero y mda y actividad gsh-px en retina se elevan en los ratones diabeticos, y no se modifican en el grupo control. La administraci\u00f3n de insulina disminuy\u00f3 estos valores. El tratamiento con ebselen consigue normalizar los niveles de mda tanto en suero como en retina de ratones diabeticos y la actividad gsh-px sin afectar los niveles de glucemia y hbaic.  existe una disminuci\u00f3n en la amplitud de la onda b del erg de los ratones diabeticos siete dias despues de la inducci\u00f3n de la diabetes.
