Separando el n.O. Del tejido circundante aparecen bandas intensamente pgfa (+) que constituyen las limitantes gliares denominadas: membrana limitante de elschnig. El menisco central de kuhnt. Tejido intermediario de kuhnt.  tejido de jacoby. Manto periferico de greef asi como una envuelta que rodea a los vasos centrales durante todo su recorrido intraneural. Atendiendo a sus caracteristicas se han clasificado los astrocitos del n.O. En: astrocitos de cuerpo celular grueso. De cuerpo celular delgado. Y astrocitos con baja inmunorreactividad (+).  en la region prelaminar consta de dos zonas claramente diferenciables: region prelaminar anterior y posterior. En la zona anterior los astrocitos constituyen celdillas formando tridimensionalmente una cesta; en la zona posterior los astrocitos forman verdaderos tubos gliales que fasciculan a los axones. En la region laminar quedan reducidos a una fina capa que recubre la cara interna de los poros de la lamina cribosa.
