Las m\u00e1s comunes son la putrescina, la espermidina y la espermina.  en la planta modelo arabidopsis, la conversi\u00f3n de putrescina a espermidina en la ruta de bios\u00edntesis de pliaminas est\u00e1 catalizadas por dos enzimas espermidina sintasa muy similares, denominadas spds1 y spds2.  mediante un rastreo de doble h\u00edbrido, se ha comprobado que spds2 interacciona con spds1 y con una nueva prote\u00edna, spms, hom\u00f3loga a spds1 y spds2. La prote\u00edna spms interacciona con spds1 y spds2 en levadura e in vitro. A diferencia de spds1 y spds2, spms es incapaz de complementar la deficiencia de espermidina en un mutante de levadura spe*3.  las prote\u00ednas spds y spms no muestran homodimerizaci\u00f3n, pero forman heterod\u00edmeros in vitro. La co-expresi\u00f3n de combinaciones de dos de las tres prote\u00ednas en estudio spds1, spds2 y spms, marcadas con los ep\u00edtopos ha y c-myc en c\u00e9lulas de arabidopsis ha confirmado la existencia de heterod\u00edmeros de spds1-spds2 y spds2-spms in vivo. Las prote\u00ednas spdss y spms marcadas con un ep\u00edtopo co-purifican con complejos proteicos comprendidos entre 650 y 750 kda.
