La subunidad beta 1 forma parte de 12 heterod\u00edmeros diferentes con diferentes caracter\u00edsticas e implicaciones biol\u00f3gicas; mientras que la beta 3, a pesar de formar parte de s\u00f3lo dos heterod\u00edmeros, est\u00e1 implicada en una amplia variedad de funciones gisiol\u00f3gicas y patol\u00f3gicas importantes. Un n\u00famero elevado de estos receptores de adhesi\u00f3n han sido caracterizados en humano y rat\u00f3n; y sin embargo, el n\u00famero caracterizado hasta el momento en especies dom\u00e9sticas es muy reducido. Por ello, los objetivos planteados en este trabajo han sido:  1,- caracterizaci\u00f3n de los genes que codifican para la subunidades beta1 y beta3 y aproximaci\u00f3n a su funci\u00f3n.  2,- su localizaci\u00f3n cromos\u00f3mica.  3,- estudio de la distribuci\u00f3n tisular de ambas integrinas mediante t\u00e9cnicas inmunohistoqu\u00edmicas y moleculares.  la caracterizaci\u00f3n de ambas mol\u00e9culas revel\u00f3 una estructura t\u00edpica de una beta integrina, con un dominio extracelular mayoritario, un \u00fanico dominio transmembranario y un dominio citoplasm\u00e1tico corto. La comparaci\u00f3n de su secuencia aminoac\u00eddica con sus hom\u00f3logas en otras especies pone de manifiesto una alta homolog\u00eda, que tambi\u00e9n es compartida al comparar los diferentes dominios funcionales. La elevada conservaci\u00f3n estructural permiti\u00f3 llevar acabo una aproximaci\u00f3n a su funci\u00f3n utilizando como referencia la estructura y funci\u00f3n de las mol\u00e9culas humanas. En el procedimiento de localizaci\u00f3n cromos\u00f3mica se obtuvo que el gen cd29 mapea en la regi\u00f3n 10q17, mientras que el gen cd61 en 12p11-2\/3p13, estando estos resultados en consonancia con el mapeo comparativo entre la especie humana y porcina.
