Es por ello que existe un inter\u00e9s creciente en modificar la composici\u00f3n de la microbiota, para obtener beneficios que repercutan en la salud del hu\u00e9sped mediante el empleo de probi\u00f3ticos y prebi\u00f3ticos (estimulaci\u00f3n del sistema inmunol\u00f3gico, reducci\u00f3n de los niveles de colesterol prevenci\u00f3n de neoplasias, etc.). Los ingredientes alimentarios con efecto prebi\u00f3tico afectan beneficiosamente al hu\u00e9sped, estimulando de forma selectiva el crecimiento y\/o actividad de una o un limitado n\u00famero de especies bacterianas residentes del colon. Estos compuestos pueden ser componentes naturales de los alimentos, adicionarse como ingredientes en la fabricaci\u00f3n de alimentos o incorporarse a la dieta como suplemento diet\u00e9ticos.  el objetivo de esta tesis es evaluar en ratas wistar los efectos de la ingesta de un agente prebi\u00f3tico (fructo-oligosac\u00e1rido): evaluaci\u00f3n nutricional, modulaci\u00f3n de la capacidad fermentativa de la microbiota y valoraci\u00f3n de las actividades enzim\u00e1ticas desarrolladas por las bacterias col\u00f3nicas de ratas wistar.  los resultados experimentales muestran qu el fos no afecta a la ingesta, al crecimiento, ni a la excreci\u00f3n de heces, aunque incrementaron el contenido cecal y produjo una hipertrofia del ciego. No afect\u00f3 a la digestabilidad de la grasa, pero se observaron efectos dosis dependiente, sobre la excreci\u00f3n y los coeficientes de digestibilidad de la grasa. Los fos diminuyeron la concentraci\u00f3n de colesterol, trigliceridos y ldl-colesterol significativamente en el grupo alimentado con la dosis superior de fos. La ingesta de fos diminuy\u00f3 la excreta de minerales en las heces y aumento la biodisponibilidad de calcio, hierro, magnesio y zinc en la dosis inferior de fos.
