Este trabajo no tiene pretensiones exclusivamente especulativas sino mostrar la relevancia hist\u00f3rica de la doctrina de su\u00e1rez con respecto al intelecto agente: pensamos que el granadino tiene la gran virtud de poner de manifiesto las dificultades que est\u00e1n presentes en esta doctrina escol\u00e1stica y que puden haber llevado a abandonar la explicaci\u00f3n de la g\u00e9nesis de las ideas acudiendo al entendimiento agente.  la postura de su\u00e1rez con respecto al entendimiento agente se encuentra en continuidad con la escol\u00e1stica, en cuanto que el granadino mantiene la necesidad de que exista; sin embargo, al momento de describir la funci\u00f3n y naturaleza del entendimiento agente se va separando de lo que sus predecesores sostuvieron al respecto. El doctor eximio se encuentra con una serie de dificultades a las que pretende dar soluci\u00f3n. En la b\u00fasqueda de soluciones, su\u00e1rez no se limita a comentar a arist\u00f3teles y santo tom\u00e1s: ciertamente lo hace, pero en aquellos aspectos en los que considera que se debe alejar de los postulado por ellos lo hace. Esta b\u00fasqueda de soluciones la realiza desde sus personales presupuestos filos\u00f3ficos, es decir, su\u00e1rez enfrenta estos problemas desde el suarismo, no desde el tomismo.  en el desarrollo de este trabajo de investigaci\u00f3n se ha confrontado la doctrina de su\u00e1rez con la de santo tom\u00e1s y algunos de sus comentadores (cayetano, silvestre de ferrara, b\u00e1\u00f1ez y juan de
