Xviii y principios del xix, en esta epoca del cambio de gusto. Es un escritor de transicion, que cultivo los diversos generos mas populares de su tiempo con gran exito. Escribio comedias sentimentales, heroico-militares, tragedias burguesas, melodramas, tonadillas, sainetes y novelas. Sera precisamente en la comedia sentimental, donde el autor manifiesta el nuevo reinado de la sensibilidad que imperaba en la epoca y el proceso de la popularizacion del gusto.  el objeto de esta tesis es, por tanto, el analisis de la comedia sentimental de don gaspar zavala y zamora. El estudio esta dividido en dos partes. La primera, ofrece una revision del panorama historico-cultural en donde surgio este genero, y la segunda parte, esta centrada en la personalidad del autor y en la profundizacion de sus obras
