En primer lugar, se analiz\u00f3, desde el punto de vista biogeogr\u00e1fico, la sierra de la capelada, l\u00edmite septentrional del \u00e1rea mundial de ambas especies. En total engloba 34 especies y subespecies de pterid\u00f3fitos. La relaci\u00f3n de t\u00e1xones con espora monoleta respecto a los de espora trileta es 2,4. Predominan las especies presentes en la regi\u00f3n mediterr\u00e1nea desde, al menos, el terciario, sobre todo las heteroc\u00f3ricas y las relictas macaron\u00e9sicas. Otras caracter\u00edsticas preponderantes en la pteridoflora de la capelada son el biotipo hemicriptof\u00edtico, la autoecolog\u00eda nemoral y el car\u00e1cter acid\u00f3filo o indiferente al sustrato.  se investig\u00f3 la germinaci\u00f3n de las esporas de varias poblaciones de ambos helechos. La germinaci\u00f3n de w.Radicans en el rango de temperaturas probado (10-25\u00c2\u00bac) fue r\u00e1pida y abundante, mientras que en c.Macrocarpa hubo un notable descenso a 10\u00c2\u00bac. Teniendo en cuenta las condiciones t\u00e9rmicas en las poblaciones del noroeste ib\u00e9rico, la germinaci\u00f3n de estos helechos parece posible en buena parte del a\u00f1o.  tambi\u00e9n se compararon dos t\u00e9cnicas de conservaci\u00f3n de esporas: h\u00fameda, sembradas en agar; y seca, metidas en frascos de cristal. Estas t\u00e9cnicas se probaron a 20,5 \u00f3 20\u00c2\u00bac. Las esporas mantuvieron una mayor viabilidad tras la conservaci\u00f3n h\u00fameda y, a largo plazo, esta t\u00e9cnica es la \u00fanica alternativa. En este estudio se incluyeron otros helechos de ecolog\u00eda af\u00edn: dryopteris aemula, d.Corleyi d.Guanchica, obteni\u00e9ndose menores diferencias entre las t\u00e9cnicas y temperaturas. La conservaci\u00f3n seca dio mejores resultados a bajas temperaturas (-20 \u00f3 5\u00c2\u00bac).  en otro experimento, se estudio la expresi\u00f3n sexual de c.Macrocarpa y w.Radicans.
