Agarch) henry y south (laminariales, phaeophyta[. Se ha delimitado el area de distrubucion de esta especie para la peninsula iberica.  por otra parte, se ha realizado un estudio de las poblaciones del estrecho de gibraltar,  siendo los objetivos: fenolog\u00eda reproductiva y ciclo biologico, variacion estacional del contenido en pigmentos fotosinteticos y de la composicion elemental) (c, n y p), y de la respuesta fotosintetica a la luz, demografia, crecimiento y produccion primaria, y la incorporacion de carbono inorganico en el proceso fotosintetico. La concentracion de clorofila a disminuyo a lo largo del ciclo de produccion, mientras que las de clorofila y caratenos fueron constantes entre abril y septiembre e incrementaron en octubre. La relacion c: n: p y la correlacion entre tasa de fotosintesis y concentracion externa de fosfato permiten suponer que el p fue el elemento limitante de la produccion. Esta planta presenta gametofitos dioicos y monomorifcos; el esporofito es anual (estival), p. Prupruascens utiliza el ion bicarbonato como fuente de carbono inorganico para la fotosintesis, mediante la accion de anhidrasa carbonica extracelular. El metodo de allen fue el mas adecuado para estimar la produccion neta, cuyo valor fue 0.04 g.
