Estas c\u00e9lulas preservan la mayor parte de las caracter\u00edsticas hep\u00e1ticas morfol\u00f3gicas y funcionales, constituyendo un modelo apropiado para estudios de metabolismo lip\u00eddico hep\u00e1tico. No obstante, presentan caracter\u00edsticas diferenciales, con respecto a hepatocitos normales, para metabolizar el alcohol. As\u00ed, hemos demostrado que estas c\u00e9lulas adh-negativas oxidan activamente el etanol a trav\u00e9s de la v\u00eda microsomal dependiente del citocromo p450, principalmente por isoformas no inducibles por el alcohol. Las c\u00e9lulas hepg2, por tanto, muestran resistencia a la acci\u00f3n t\u00f3xica y estimulaci\u00f3n lipog\u00e9nica causada por etanol en hepatocitos normales. Se observan, no obstante, determinadas acciones a nivel metab\u00f3lico, concretamente, una inhibici\u00f3n espec\u00edfica de la s\u00edntesis de novo de fosfatidilcolina y fosfatidiletanolamina, as\u00ed como un incremento en la secreci\u00f3n de triacilglicerol reci\u00e9n sintetizado al medio extracelular.  empleando tambi\u00e9n las c\u00e9lulas hepg2 como modelo experimental, se ha llevado a cabo el estudio de la acci\u00f3n ejercida por el compuesto antitumoral hexadecilfosfocolina, perteneciente a una nueva clase de agentes antineopl\u00e1sicos sint\u00e9ticos, las alquilfosfocolinas. Este an\u00e1logo lip\u00eddico presenta actividad citost\u00e1tica hacia las c\u00e9lulas hepatomales hepg2. El tratamiento de hexadecilfosfocolina disminuye la incorporaci\u00f3n de diversos precursores lipog\u00e9nicos ex\u00f3genos a fosfatidilcolina, ocasionando una reducci\u00f3n en la producci\u00f3n de esfingomielina y un ac\u00famulo de ceramida. Se produce, adem\u00e1s, una estimulaci\u00f3n de la producci\u00f3n de novo de acilgliceroles y de la s\u00edntesis de fosfatidiletanolamina v\u00eda cdp-etanolamina como consecuencia de la
