En total se consideraron 26 especies agrupadas en 13 pares caducifolia-parennifolia.  las especies caducifolias presentaron una mayor tasa de crecimiento relativo (rgr) que las especies perennifolias, la cual estaba asociada tanto a caracter\u00edsticas morfol\u00f3gicas (una mayor raz\u00f3n de \u00e1rea foliar (lar) y mayor \u00e1rea espec\u00edfica foliar (sla)), como a fisiol\u00f3gicas (una mayor tasa de asimilaci\u00f3n neta (nar)).  la mayor \u00e1rea espec\u00edfica foliar (sla, \u00e1rea foliar\/peso seco foliar) de las caducifolias se deb\u00edan a un menor grosor de la hoja, no encontr\u00e1ndose diferencias en la densidad de la hoja entre ambos grupos funcionales. Las especies caducifolias presentaban mayor proporci\u00f3n de epidermis superior a inferior y menor proporci\u00f3n de par\u00e9nquima esponjoso que las especies perennifolias.  las hojas de las especies caducifolias conten\u00edan concentraciones mayores de animales, \u00e1cidos org\u00e1nicos y prote\u00ednas que las hojas de las especies perennifolias. Por el contrario, las hojas de las especies caducifolias presentaban menores concentraciones de fenoles solubles y lignina que las perennifolias.  las diferencias en sla y su composici\u00f3n qu\u00edmica estaban asociadas al consumo por herb\u00edvoros generalistas (por ejemplo, el caracol helix aspersa). las hojas con alto sla y alta concentraci\u00f3n de prote\u00ednas (t\u00edpicas de
