Una red de neuronas artificiales es una emulacion del funcionamiento y estructura de las neuronas del cerebro y sus interconexiones, implementada en un ordenador. Las redes de neuronas presentan propiedades propias del cerebro humano, como son aprendizaje por si mismo, generalizacion, memoria asociativa, reconocimiento de patrones visuales, etc.  el sistema construido es una de las primeras aplicaciones de las redes de neuronas a la prediccion del comportamiento humano en la seleccion de elementos complejos, como son los programas de television.  la red de neuronas, tras ser entrenada con cientos de ejemplos de audiencias anteriores, realiza las predicciones de la siguiente semana. Las predicciones se obtienen para cada cadena y para cada cuarto de hora desde las 14 a las 24 horas. El error de las predicciones de toda una semana ha sido de 0,03 puntos de cuota. Los errores medios cometidos en las predicciones de cada cuarto de hora son de 4,6 puntos de cuota.
