En algunos \u00f3rganos diana, entre ellos la pr\u00f3stata, la t se convirte en dht por acci\u00f3n del enzima 5-alfa-reductasa. actualmente se conocen dos isoenzimas de la 5-alfa-r, la tipo 1 y la tipo 2. Ambas isoenzimas presentan propiedades f\u00edsico-qu\u00edmicas diferentes. La tipo 1 est\u00e1 ampliamente distribuida por todos los tejidos del organismo, mientras que la tipo 2 s\u00f3lo se expresa en tejidos dependientes de andr\u00f3genos como la pr\u00f3stata. Dht no s\u00f3lo juega un papel fundamental en el desarrollo, maduraci\u00f3n y funcionaldiad de la pr\u00f3stata, sino que tambi\u00e9n es el andr\u00f3geno responsable de patolog\u00edas prost\u00e1ticas como la hipertrofia benigna de pr\u00f3stata (hbp) y algunos adenocarcinomas prost\u00e1ticos dependientes de andr\u00f3genos.  en el sistema nervioso central (snc) se conoce tambi\u00e9n la existencia de la v\u00eda de la 5-alfa-reducci\u00f3n implicada en la s\u00edntesis de neuroesteroides. los neuroesteroides podr\u00edan participar en el desarrollo del snc y en la diferenciaci\u00f3n sexual del cerebro.  por todo lo anteriormente expuesto, es necesario disponer de una metodolog\u00eda adecuada que nos permita poder detectar y cuantificar los niveles de mrna de ambos isoenzimas de la 5-alfa-reductasa y poner de manifiesto su regulaci\u00f3n por los andr\u00f3genos t y dht en distintos tejidos y situaciones experimentales.  en esta tesis doctoral se desarrolla un nuevo m\u00e9todo r\u00e1pido, fiable y preciso de rt-pcr competitiva acoplada a electroforesis capilar para la cuantificaci\u00f3n de los niveles de mrna de los isoenzimas de la
