Francisco j. Ruiz canton, se ha estudiado la expresion de la glutamina sintetasa durante el desarrollo de plantulas de pino. Este material biolgoica ha sido empleado como modelo experimental representante de la coniferas, un grupo de especies le\u00f1osas gimnospermas escasamente estudiadas, pero de gran importancia biologica, ecologica y economica. A diferencia de las angiospermas, estas plantas presentan la capacidad de sintetizar clorofilas y desarrollar cloroplastos maduros en completa ausencia de luz.  paralelamente al incremento en los niveles de pigmentos y proteinas cloroplastidicas, se ha observado un importante aumentos en la actividad glutamina sintetasa no dependiente de luz, el cual puede representar la necesidad de nitrogeno combinado en forma de aminoacidos para la sintesis de estos compuestos nitrogenados. El trabajo presenta tambien como interes la clonacion, por primera vez, de un cdna completo del enzima mencionado en este grupo de plantas superiores.
