Asimismo, los materiales magneto-\u00f3pticos son relativamente baratos y se pueden fabricar sencillamente. en la tesis, el material utilizado son las l\u00e1minas finas de cobalto porque tienen una constante magneto-\u00f3ptica muy elevada y se esperaba que dieran una se\u00f1al aceptable y medible.  en la tesis se ha desarrollado un sensor capaz de traducir giros del plano de polarizaci\u00f3n de la luz debidas a campos magn\u00e9ticos en se\u00f1ales el\u00e9ctricas. El principio es muy sencillo, un fotodiodo recoge la luz emitida por un l\u00e1ser y que ha atravesado un material magneto-\u00f3ptico. Ese haz de luz lleva informaci\u00f3n del campo magn\u00e9tico que afecta al material en forma de giro del plano de polarizaci\u00f3n.  la senal del fotodiodo es amplificada con un amplificador de transimpedancia y varias etapas de amplificaci\u00f3n tensi\u00f3n-tensi\u00f3n. La ganancia total es del orden de 10^10 ohmios.  para hacer las medidas fue necesario crear campos magn\u00e9ticos conocidos. para ello se idearion varias bobinas y los circuitos de alimentaci\u00f3n. En concreto, para las medidas de alta frecuencia se dise\u00f1\u00f3 un generador de impulsos senoidales de alta frecuencia que permiti\u00f3 medir el ancho de banda del sistema.  se hicieron medidas de las caracter\u00edsticas magn\u00e9ticas de las l\u00e1minas finas de cobalto para diferentes, desde 5 nm hasta 70 nm. Las medidas m\u00e1s interesantes fueron las de la constante magneto-\u00f3ptica de verdet y las variaciones de la se\u00f1al recogida por el sensor al variar la temperatura de la sonda.
