Estos principios activos son de tres tipos: antiinfecciosos como polimixina b, bacitracina, oxitetraciclina, sulfacetamida y nistatina; f\u00e1rmacos con efectos sobre el sistema nervioso aut\u00f3nomo como fenilefrina y nafazolina y anest\u00e9sicos locales como lidoca\u00edna.  para la resoluci\u00f3n de estas mezclas se han utilizado dos tipos de t\u00e9cnicas: por una parte t\u00e9cnicas espectrofotom\u00e9tricas basadas en la espectrofotometr\u00eda derivada y en la calibraci\u00f3n multivariante: pls (regresi\u00f3n por m\u00ednimos cuadrados parciales) y pcr (regresi\u00f3n del componente principal), y por otra, t\u00e9cnica de separaci\u00f3n basadas en la electroforesis capilar, m\u00e1s concretamente la denominada cromatograf\u00eda electrocin\u00e9tica micelar (mekc).  se han aportado m\u00e9todos v\u00e1lidos que pueden ser usados en laboratorios de control farmac\u00e9utico aplic\u00e1ndose dichos m\u00e9todos a la cuantificaci\u00f3n de los principios activos anteriores presentes en diferentes preparados de uso t\u00f3pico tales como colirios, suspensiones bucales, pomadas d\u00e9rmicas y oculares y pastillas de aplicaci\u00f3n bucofar\u00edngea.
