Esta especie se genera por reducci\u00f3n de tricloruro de titanio \u00f3 tetracloruro de titanio con gran n\u00famero de reductores. Es una especie muy eficaz en reacciones de acoplamiento de compuestos carbon\u00edlicos, que a pesar de su importancia tiene una estructura incierta.  en esta tesis se ha determinado que el \u00abtitanio activo\u00bb no es tricloruro de titanio, dicloruro de titanio, hidruro de titanio(ii) \u00f3 titanio met\u00e1lico finamente dividido, encontr\u00e1ndose evidencias s\u00f3lidas de que el \u00abtitanio activo\u00bb consiste en h-ti-cl. As\u00ed, tanto el tratamiento de ticl2 con un dador de hidruros como el tih2 con hcl, dan lugar a un polvo negro que se comporta qu\u00edmicamente como el \u00abtitanio-activo\u00bb.  si bien, se ha demostrado que el titanio activo no consiste en tricloruro de titanio o dicloruro de titanio, se ha demostrado que estos \u00faltimos reactivos son capaces de efectuar acoplamiento carbon\u00edlico en presencia de una base que neutralice su acidez.  se ha encontrado que el \u00abh-ti-cl\u00bb generado a partir de tih2 \u00f3 bien a partir de ticl2, se comporta como un reactivo eficaz de
