Los cultivares son: americano, que muestra cierta tolerancia y smith-5, que se muestra muy sensible al virus. Se analiza el aislado de cmv obtenido de plantas de pimiento infectadas mediante electroferesis en gel de agarosa, identificando los rnas y la proteina de la cubierta del virus.  se miden los sintomas que este aislado produce en ambos cultivares. Se muestran plantas infectadas con el mosaico producido por la virosis sistemica, el contenido en clorofila (medido en espectrofotometro) y el desprendimiento de etileno, medido por cromatografia de gases. Se muestran fotografias bajo microscopio optico y electronico de cortes semifinos y ultrafinos de hojas sanas e infectadas con cmv que reflejan la perdida de celulas del parenquima en empalizada y disminucion de cloroplastos, sobre todo en la variedad sensible.  la tolerancia del cultivar americano y la sensibilidad del smith-5 se relacionan con los modelos proteinicos obtenidos en plantas sanas y en plantas con infeccion sistemica. La produccion de proteinas relacionadas con la patogenesis (pr) fueron analizadas por electroforesis e isoelectroenfoque en phastsystem y cuantificadas por phastlmage. De esas proteinas-pr se realizan extracciones en el fluido intercelular y protoplasmico analizandose actividades enzimaticas como beta-1,3-glucanasas y peroxidasas.  tambien se analiza actividad peroxidasa de pared celular y se realizan los densitogramas con el tiempo de infeccion.
