Como las narraciones fant\u00e1sticas se estudian en el momento en el que triunfa la novela realista, tambi\u00e9n se dedican unas p\u00e1ginas a las relaciones entre aqu\u00e9llas y ese movimiento literario. Esta primera parte se completa con una descripci\u00f3n del g\u00e9nero cuento y de otras manifestaciones con \u00e9l relacionadas.  el n\u00facleo de la investigaci\u00f3n est\u00e1 centrado en el an\u00e1lisis de las colecciones de relatos de literatura fant\u00e1stica m\u00e1s significativas aparecidas entre 1868 y 1900. Este apartado se subdivide en tres, correspondientes a cada una de las etapas por las que atraviesa la novela realista. En la etapa de realismo de tesis (1868-1881) se hace especial hincapi\u00e9 en las colecciones de alarc\u00f3n, ros de olano, serrano alc\u00e1zar, jos\u00e9 de selgas, n\u00fa\u00f1ez de arce, carlos coello, fern\u00e1ndez brem\u00f3n y gald\u00f3s. En el momento de mayor influencia del naturalismo merecen especial atenci\u00f3n las obras de juan tom\u00e1s salvany, nilo mar\u00eda fabra, blasco ib\u00e1\u00f1ez y leopoldo alas. Por \u00faltimo, la d\u00e9cada de los noventa y la crisis final del siglo est\u00e1n representadas por los relatos fant\u00e1sticos de pardo baz\u00e1n, juan valera, luis valera, p\u00edo baroja y los \u00faltimos cuentos de clar\u00edn. El panorama se completa con otras variantes de menor entidad literaria pero de inter\u00e9s sociol\u00f3gico como son el cuento anarquista y los relatos dedicados a la infancia.  entre los datos
