Ambos est\u00e1n expresados y modulados durante el desarrollo tard\u00edo en el sistema nervioso, pulm\u00f3n, m\u00fasculo y otros tejidos. Lif act\u00faa a trav\u00e9s de un receptor dim\u00e9rico (lifr-gp 130) que se asocia con quinasas jak citopl\u00e1smicas, las cuales activan prote\u00ednas stat.  existe una convergencia de este sistema con el sistema de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n de las prote\u00ednas irs, sustratos del receptor de igf-i. Estudios previos hab\u00edan demostrado la regulaci\u00f3n de igf-i por lif en nervio perif\u00e9rico. una aproximaci\u00f3n global para estudiar las interaciones funcionales in vivo entre lif e igf-i ha sido la generaci\u00f3n de ratones doble mutantes.  tras los cruces entre dobles heterocigotos para los genes lif eigf-i, todos los ratones mutantes para ambos factores murieron al nacimiento, sugiriendo una sinergia entre lif e igf-i para funciones vitales. En embriones de 18.5 d\u00edas (e18.5), la falta de lif agrav\u00f3 el retraso en el crecimiento y las anomal\u00edas de m\u00fasculo y pulm\u00f3n presentes en los ratones mutantes para igf-i.  en snc, una estructura conocida que requiere igf-i para mantener postnatalmente un n\u00famero normal de neuronas, es el bulbo olfatorio. La ausencia de igf-i disminuye notablemente el n\u00famero de neuronas mitrales en e18.5 y la deficiencia podr\u00eda depender de la acci\u00f3n de lif. El crecimiento postnatal de los supervivientes muestra dimorfismo sexual, siendo las hembras lif-1- igf-i+\/- las m\u00e1s retrasadas. estos dos factores de crecimiento\/citoquinas forman parte, por
