En virtud de su densidad neuronal es uno de los n\u00facleos m\u00e1s prominentes del complejo olivar superior. Se caracteriza por sus c\u00e9lulas principales, cada una de las cuales es contactada por un \u00fanico y elaborado c\u00e1liz sin\u00e1ptico, el c\u00e1lid sin\u00e1ptico, el c\u00e1liz de held, que tiene origen en las c\u00e9lulas arbusto globulares del n\u00facleo coclear anteroventral contralateral. Durante las dos primeras semanas del desarrollo, los c\u00e1lices de held sufren llamativos cambios morfol\u00f3gicos que van acompa\u00f1ados de cambios en la expresi\u00f3n de canales, receptores y otras prote\u00ednas que provocan innumerables modificaciones bioqu\u00edmicas y electrofisiol\u00f3gicas. Los c\u00e1lices contienen ves\u00edculas sin\u00e1pticas esf\u00e9ricas claras, forman m\u00faltiples sinapsis asim\u00e9tricas con su c\u00e9lula diana y son intensamente inmunorreactivos para glutamato. Los receptores metabotr\u00f3picos del glutamato (ligados a prote\u00ednas g) son de gran importancia en la neurotransmisi\u00f3n excitadora que tiene lugar en estos tipos de sinapsis.  hasta la fecha, se conocen 8 subtipos diferentes clasificados en tres grupos distintos, los cuales median en la acci\u00f3n del glutamato a nivel presin\u00e1ptico, postsin\u00e1ptico y glial.  en la presente tesis doctoral hemos demostrado en el sistema c\u00e1liz de held-neurona globular la existencia de cambios en la expresi\u00f3n de los receptores metabotr\u00f3picos del glutamato mglur4a, mglur2\/3 y del canal de potasio kv3.1b durante el desarrollo postnatal, empleando para ello m\u00e9todos inmunocitoqu\u00edmicos a nivel de microscop\u00eda de luz y electr\u00f3nica. El patr\u00f3n de expresi\u00f3n del receptor mglur4a coincide con los procesos de maduraci\u00f3n que sufren los c\u00e1lices de held.  el porcentaje de c\u00e1lices inmunorreactivos para mglur4a
