Esta regulaci\u00f3n del metabolismo del hierro es muy importante para las bacterias ya que el hierro es un nutriente mineral esencial para la mayor\u00eda de los microorganismos. Adem\u00e1s, los niveles intracelulares de hierro deben estar finamente controlados ya que un exceso de hierro podr\u00edan ser t\u00f3xicos para la c\u00e9lula.  en este trabajo se han caracterizado las prote\u00ednas dmdr1 y dmdr2 de streptomyces coelicolor, que se engloban dentro de la familia de prote\u00ednas ider. Se ha comprobado que ambas prote\u00ednas reconocen las secuencias operadoras del gen tox de corynebacterium diphtheriae y del gen desa de streptomyces pilosus, aunque difieren en afinidad por las mismas y modo de acci\u00f3n. La prote\u00edna dmdr2 presenta aproximadamente el doble de afinidad por ambas secuencias operadoras que la prote\u00edna dmdr1.  no obstante, la afinidad de cada una de ellas por las secuencias operadoras es muy similar, a pesar de que la secuencia del gen desa proviene de otro streptomyces y presenta una mayor identidad con la secuencia consenso de uni\u00f3n de este tipo de prote\u00ednas. Adem\u00e1s ambas prote\u00ednas difieren en el modo de acci\u00f3n, actuando en forma dim\u00e9rica la prote\u00edna dmdr1, y en forma tetram\u00e9rica la dmdr2. La prote\u00edna dmdr1 es el regulador principal del metabolismo del hierro en streptomyces coelicolor, ya que en condiciones normales de crecimiento la prote\u00edna dmdr2 no se expresa. Adem\u00e1s la prote\u00edna dmdr1 est\u00e1 regulando negativamente la expresi\u00f3n de dmdr2, probablemente de manera indirecta, ya que mutantes con el gen dmdr1 interrumpido expresaban la
