La obtenci\u00f3n de aceite de oliva es un proceso de gran inter\u00e9s econ\u00f3mico en nuestro pa\u00eds, y como alternativa biorremediadora de los residuos originados en dicho proceso, se seleccionaron cepas bacterianas con capacidad de producir recursos de inter\u00e9s biotecnol\u00f3gico como son los biopol\u00edmeros de tipo polisacar\u00eddico.  la caracterizaci\u00f3n taxon\u00f3mica polif\u00e1sica de estas bacterias nos ha llevado a la descripci\u00f3n de una nueva especie dentro del g\u00e9nero paenibacillus denominada paenibacillus jamilae (\u00abjamila\u00bb palabra \u00e1rabe que significa \u00abel agua que corre de las aceitunas\u00bb).  dado el gran inter\u00e9s de los biopol\u00edmeros solubles en agua, nuestro estudio se ha centrado en la localizaci\u00f3n, identificaci\u00f3n y caracterizaci\u00f3n del oper\u00f3n de bios\u00edntesis del exopolisac\u00e1rido (eps) producido por paenibacillus jamilae. Dicha especie es productora de biopol\u00edmero, que en estudios previos se hab\u00eda analizado a nivel de composici\u00f3n qu\u00edmica y actividad biol\u00f3gica.  los genes que codifican para las enzimas implicadas en la s\u00edntesis, as\u00ed como la polimerizaci\u00f3n y exportaci\u00f3n del eps est\u00e1n situados en el cromosoma bacteriano en una misma unidad policistr\u00f3nica. Se les ha realizado un an\u00e1lisis bioinform\u00e1tico, asign\u00e1ndole funciones por homolog\u00edas de secuencias con las ya descritas en las bases de datos y posteriormente corroboradas con un an\u00e1lisis enzim\u00e1tico funcional.  las actividades de las glicosiltransferasas, enzimas esenciales para la transferencia de los az\u00facares activados, que constituir\u00e1n las unidades repetitivas en la estructura qu\u00edmica del biopol\u00edmero (oligosac\u00e1rido), son galactosiltransferasa, glucosiltransferasa y manosiltransferasa, junto a una epimerasa probable que aumenta la
