En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, se ha visto que su inhibici\u00f3n resulta citot\u00f3xica. Por otra parte, ceramida esta metabolicamente relacionada con la ptdcho a trav\u00e9s de la esfingomielina s\u00edntasa. El uso de an\u00e1logos de ceramide de cadena corta, como c2-ceramida, ha sido ampliamente utilizado en el estudio de la se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n de ceramida end\u00f3gena, incluyendose tambi\u00e9n su uso como est\u00edmulo apopt\u00f3tico.  para nuestros estudios hemos utilizado c2-ceramida como est\u00edmulo citot\u00f3xico en c\u00e9lulas de neurobastoma nb16. Observamos que c2-ceramida induce citotoxicidad por mecanismos principalmente necr\u00f3ticos, aunque un peque\u00f1o porcentaje de c\u00e9lulas presentaban fen\u00f3menos apopt\u00f3ticos. Adem\u00e1s, c2-ceramida activaba la caspasa iniciadora 8 y la efectora 3, y sin embargo su inhibici\u00f3n no preven\u00eda los efectos t\u00f3xicos de la c2-ceramida, por lo que concluimos que la activaci\u00f3n de caspasas no era un prerequisito en la cascada citot\u00f3xica de c2-ceramida.  por otra parte, describimos que la citotoxicidad inducida por c2-ceramida en neuronas granulares de cerebelo pod\u00eda prevenirse por la adici\u00f3n de ptdcho ex\u00f3gena y a su vez, c2-ceramida inhib\u00eda tempranamente la s\u00edntesis de ptdcho, atribuyendo los efectos t\u00f3xicos de c2-ceramida a la inhibici\u00f3n de la s\u00edntesis de ptdcho.  siguientes estudios en c\u00e9lulas cos-7 para dilucidar el paso concretamente inhibido en la ruta de s\u00edntesis de ptdcho por c2-ceramida, nos llev\u00f3 a concluir que el paso inhibido era el segundo, correspondiente a la ctp: fosfocolina citidililtransferasa (cct).
