Sitac fue clonada en virtud de su homolog\u00eda con otra prote\u00edna con dominios pdz anteriormente aisladas en el laboratorio, tacip18\/sintenina. A pesar de su elevado grado de identidad, estas prote\u00ednas unen dianas distintas: tacip 18 une el dominio citoplasmatico del factor de crecimiento transformante alfa (tgf-alfa), un ligando del receptor del egf, y sitac une al ant\u00edgeno l6, que pertenece a la familia de las tetraspaninas.  en segundo lugar se estudia el papel del shedding (un tipo de prote\u00f3lisis limitada que libera el dominio extracelular de prote\u00ednas de transmembrana) de ciertos ligandos de la familia del egf. Mediante la utilizaci\u00f3n de t\u00e9cnicas de biolog\u00eda molecular y celular se muestra que el shedding del tgf-alfa es cr\u00edtico, no s\u00f3lo para regular la producci\u00f3n del factor de crecimiento soluble, sino tambi\u00e9n para controlar la actividad juxtacrina de la forma de transmembrana del factor de crecimiento. Del mismo modo, el shedding es tambi\u00e9n cr\u00edtico para el desarrollo de tumores en modelos precl\u00ednicos y, m\u00e1s a\u00fan, tace, la metaloproteasa responsable del shedding del tgf-alfa se encuentra muy sobreexpresada en tumores de mama humanos mientras que otras metaloproteasas de la misma familia no lo est\u00e1n.
