En el momento del comienzo de esta tesis, solo se conoc\u00edan como prote\u00ednas implicadas en el inicio de la transcripci\u00f3n mitocondrial en mam\u00edferos, y m\u00e1s concretamente en humanos, una rna polimerasa (h-mtrpol) y un factor de transcripci\u00f3n denominado factor de transcripci\u00f3n mitocondrial a (h-mttfa). En el presente trabajo se han subclonado estas prote\u00ednas y se ha comprobado que por s\u00ed solas no son capaces de producir la iniciaci\u00f3n del proceso. Posteriormente, se ha identificado otra prote\u00edna implicada y que ha resultado ser el factor de transcripci\u00f3n mitocondrial b en humanos (h-mttfb).  tambi\u00e9n se ha identificado y clonado el factor de terminaci\u00f3n de la transcripci\u00f3n mitocondrial de rata (r-mterf).
