Mientras el kiwi es considerado como un cultivo ductil, el olivo es considerado como recalcitrante. En actinidia se establecieron suspensiones celulares, lograndose la regeneracion de plantas a partir de plaqueos y transferencia de los callos a un medio con zeatina.  asimismo, en olivo se logro mantener celulas en suspension creciendo en un medio con ana y zeatina. Los factores que afectan al aislamiento y cultivo de protoplastos aislados a partir de dichas suspensiones celulares asi como de tejido foliar se han estudiado en este trabajo. Analisis de metilacion del adn han demostrado que los cultivos celulares de kiwi y de olivo presentan una hipermetilacion del adn derivada del uso de 2,4-d. Por el contrario, el empleo de combinaciones con citoquinina resulta hipometilante.  de estos resultados se concluye que las combinaciones hormonales utilizadas para iniciar cultivos desorganizados pueden provocar aumentos considerables de la metilacion del adn.  este estado de metilacion ha de ser revertido durante la induccion de procesos morfogenicos.
